What’s the difference between a nutritional therapist and a naturopathic nutritional therapist?

The main difference between a nutritional therapist and a naturopathic nutritional therapist is that the latter applies the basic principles of naturopathy and natural healing to his/her practice. This practice provides a holistic therapy that encourages the body’s intrinsic healing properties, which in turn tackle the cause of any imbalance, create sustainable healing and promote long term health and vibrancy.

What is the different between conventional (allopathic) and naturopathic medicine?

Conventional (Allopathic) medicine manages the symptoms of disease without considering the person as an individual, whereas naturopathic medicine applies a holistic approach looking at the person as a whole and seeks to find the root cause of the disease. Naturopaths understand that the causes of diseases are different for each person, which is why an individual approach is so important.

Naturopathic medicine stresses the importance of diet, exercise, supplementation, and complementary treatments such as massage, bodywork, meditation, and relaxation. Conventional medicine rarely discusses nutrition or exercise unless the patient is obese or anorexic.

Naturopathy aims to find the cause of disease and treat from the inside out, while conventional medicine looks purely at the symptoms and treats from the outside in. Naturopathy looks at the whole person, their lifestyle and environment. Whereas conventional medicine prescribes medication to alleviate symptoms without delving deeper to look at why they occurred. Naturopathic and Conventional medicine are both evidence based.

Why is naturopathy so important?

Naturopathy is important because it is a highly effective natural form of medicine. Naturopathy encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms by promoting a balance in mind, body and spirit which can help create long term health and vibrancy.
